The temporomandibular joint, aka the TMJ, is what allows you to open and close your mouth. The joints on each side of your head work together during eating, talking, swallowing etc. If any component of these joints isn’t functioning properly it can cause pain. Common causes of TMJ pain are: arthritis, trauma, dislocation, bruxism (teeth grinding), and tooth and jaw alignment.
If you are experiencing any of symptoms like tenderness in the muscles near the joints, painful clicking or popping, and difficulty moving then you may need treatment for your TMJ.
