What exactly is a root canal procedure and why would I need one?

Root canal treatment is needed if the pulp (tissue inside your tooth) becomes inflamed or infected. The procedure involves removing the infected tissue from the chamber and canals of the tooth and then cleaning and sealing the canals. Common causes of an infected pulp are deep cavities, cracked or broken tooth, or an injury to a tooth.

If an infected tooth isn’t treated it came cause pain and swelling. The root canal treatment is usually a simple procedure with little or no discomfort and takes one to three visits.
